DESCRIPTION:BELMONT TO ELECT DELEGATES TO DEMOCRATIC STATE CONVENTION \nRegistered Democrats in Belmont will hold a caucus on Saturday\, May 11 from 1-4pm at the Town Hall Auditorium to elect delegates and alternates to the 2019 Massachusetts Democratic State Convention. \nThis year’s state convention will be held September 14th at the MassMutual Center in Springfield\, where thousands of Democrats from across the state will come together to discuss Party business and celebrate our successes as we prepare for upcoming elections. \nThe caucus is open to all registered and pre-registered Democrats in Belmont. Pre-registered Democrats who will be 16 by May 11\, 2019 will be allowed to participate and run as a delegate or alternate. Belmont can elect 17 delegates\, 8 women and 8 men\, one with no gender requirement\, and four alternates to the Convention. \nYouth\, minorities\, people with disabilities\, and LGBTQ individuals who are not elected as a delegate or alternate may apply to be an add-on delegate at the caucus or at www.massdems.org. \nImportant Rules: \nYou must be present to be nominated. \nIf there are not enough candidates present to fill all delegate and alternate positions\, two-thirds of those present and voting at the local caucus may move to have a candidate’s name placed in nomination despite the candidate’s absence provided that the candidate has notified the chair beforehand. \nNominations are closed by two-thirds of those present and voting. \nEach candidate is allowed to make a two minute speech. \nThose interested in getting involved with the Belmont Democratic Town Committee should contact BDTC Chair Linda Levin-Scherz at 617-834-4682 or check out their website at https://belmontdemocrats.org/
