This year our convention is an endorsing convention, where candidates for statewide offices will seek to earn the nomination of the party delegates.  Candidates must receive at least 15% of the votes at the convention to be on the primary ballot – with so many open seats, we expect both the caucus and the convention to be pretty exciting, with candidates and campaign volunteers vying to get enough votes!

In order to vote at the caucus and run for delegate, you must be a registered to vote as a Democrat in Belmont by January 31st of this year and you must attend the caucus.  We will be electing 9 male and 8 female delegates and 3 alternates to the state convention which will be held in Worcester on Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14.  Youth, minorities, and people with disabilities who are not elected as delegates or alternates may apply to be “add-on” delegates.

Although only Belmont Democrats can vote, the caucus is open to the public.  Plan to come early to talk with representatives of the various campaigns who are sure to be there, and bring a friend!  The annual caucus is a great opportunity to introduce your neighbors to local politics.
